OUR
MISSION Wandering
Souls is dedicated to making the luxury of the arts more accessible to everyone!
At the core of our mission is
a belief that the arts can fuel our imagination, encourage our personal growth and help unite individuals and communities.
Yet, the richness of the arts is often considered a luxury. By bringing stripped-down, high quality, energetic performances
to those who have little or no access we hope to break down that misconception.
We hope to open the channels to engaging conversations , new experiences and-- in the process-- provide
opportunities for a broader cultural exchange.
Our
Cornerstones
In order to achieve our mission
there are three essential building blocks which we will consistently re-evaluate for ways to improve and grow through the
experience we gain. They are:
Audience
On tour: We tour to audiences that for various reasons
- sociological, economic or other unexpected life reasons - have limited access to the arts; and we offer free performances
at the location(s) of their choosing. These audiences primarily include those in shelters, detention centers, nursing homes,
schools, and community centers.
Public shows:
In addition to reaching out to the underserved population we also understand that there may be members of the community who
are considered financially stable, yet unable or choose not to partake in the arts. We will offer Pay-What-You-Can performances
(when space is available) of every show to the general public in order to remove obstacles and encourage potential audience
members.
With each and every audience:
We look for ways in which we can engage and learn from our audience. This can be as simple as a post-show talk back or could
evolve into a relationship that includes creating projects within the community.
Artists
We are committed to using a growing ensemble of professional artists. We want to provide an environment
which is attractive, encouraging and sustainable for these artists. This means open lines of communication, performer-centered
development and the best paycheck we can provide.
In addition
to financial compensation we are also interested in creating a company in which artists can devise their own projects with
a production team to support their exploration. In return, we only ask that these projects (if not specifically devised for
our target audiences) be shared with them.
Materials
All of our shows
are developed to be portable and low budget; and we want whatever elements we travel with to strengthen and enhance the performances.
Secondly, we want to promote the idea that you don't need a large budget or spectacular display to engage your creative
muscles; and we hope to pass that message along to our audiences. Finally, we are concerned about our environment and want
to reduce waste however we can.
With all of this in mind
and the belief that it will "take a village" to keep this company going, we will endeavor to borrow, purchase second
hand or make everything we use.
